We are dedicated to providing you with tried and true, high end lines of natural incense, soaps, herb infused balms, bath salts and accessories, lotions, candles and aromatherapy goods to delight your senses, care for your body, ease your aches, and elevate your heart.
Devonshire is a family legacy business created by Chemist, Researcher and Forest Wizard James Hershberger in 1967.
Translating medieval and ancient scrolls, seriously, he was Deep Geek, James, whom everyone called “Hersh”, created recipes using the information he found in his research, in conjunction with his knowledge of chemistry. These recipes are what allow us to bring you these scents and self-care secrets of the ancients.
Hersh brought Devonshire to the very first season of the Texas Renaissance Festival in 1975. The company continued vending at the TRF for many years and went on to establish flourishing shops at Scarborough Renaissance Festival, the Bristol Renaissance Faire and the Kansas City Renaissance Festival, among others.
Devonshire became a Renaissance Festival “Name Brand” in soaps and incense under Hersh and his daughter Keridwyn, who took on the family business after his retirement.
Keridwyn, not only an excellent soap and incense maker but also a chemist, activist, philanthropist, horsewoman, actor, director, fiber artist, vet tech, tarot reader, spiritual community leader, and Mother, expanded the reach of the Devonshire brand and the breadth of its product line and was featured on the History Channel’s Modern Marvels:, Bathroom Tech II episode.

Moving overseas to focus on her new adventure https://wanderingmoonretreats.com/, Keridwyn entrusted the family business to her Rennie “cousins”, Roxanne and Araris Dresden, who are handcrafting the Devonshire product at their family home in Michigan, using the traditional Hershberger family recipes.
